We have reached one of the most important passages in all Scripture: Genesis 15:6. It is important because it is the first time that justification by faith is mentioned explicitly. Having faith is not an action rewarded by God with righteousness. Having faith is not a substitute of holiness or righteousness. Faith is the instrument by which the benefits of who Christ is, and what he has done, are applied to the redeemed. Faith is the product of the work of the Holy Spirit in the human heart.
