A powerless cross – Una cruz sin poder

1 Co. 1:17

Paul wants to get his point across: it is not his eloquence that make the cross powerful. Its power does not come from anything that we could add to it; on the contrary, if we add something to the cross, we are denying its true power. The people the Apostle was talking to loved wise, elegant, and sophisticated words. They would measure the importance of an idea by the oratory qualities of the proponent of such idea. That approach is useless with the cross of Christ. It is Him, his sacrifice and love, that is the source of power and wisdom.
