This Sunday, we are starting in a new series of sermons based on James. This letter has been called ‘the Proverbs of the NT’. While a casual reading of this text may give the impression that James is expressing random thoughts on Christian living, if we invest the time to gaze closely, we will see that those ‘random thoughts’ are like islands in the ocean, tips of submerged mountains piercing the surface of the sea. James’ advise on how to live this life in a Christian way is based on God’s character. In other words, what James says is the way of living this life is as if God, through us, is piercing the surface of daily life. If we, as Christians, can face this life is because of what lies beneath: God’s amazing faithfulness to support us, not because of what we can contribute, but because of who He is, and what He has done.
